It was voted to transfer $89.50 from Reserve Fund to Town Clerk - Elections Dept . and send a letter to Mr. Carroll advising him that de- partment heads should use all possible means to keep within their appro- priations. The Chairman spoke about two important things we should strive to do this year in our deliberations: 1. Order during the meetings so that all information should be dissiminated to all the members of the Committee. 2. Sub Committees sho1:ld be the backbone and pulse of the Committee, finding out what goes on in the depart- ments and what are the actual needs of the department. It was voted to send a letter to the Selectmen relative to long range planning and what their policy will be. During the budget season a report on overtime in the Public Works Department was made which results were staggering. Total overtime hours in 1948 totaled 20,381 @ average rate of $1.10 or $22,419.10 $22,419.10 A survey and report by members of the Board of Selectmen shows that the Department can be operated on 1600 hours of overtime in any �-- one year which when transferred into hours paid equals 2400 hours @ average rate 41.10 2,640.00 Net saving to Town on overtime $19,779.10 The meeting adjourned at 9:45 P.
