470- A <br /> APPROPRIATION COMMITTEE <br /> DATE: Monday, December 11, 1972 <br /> PLACE: Town Office Building, Room 111 <br /> TIME: 7:30 P.M. <br /> PRESENT: Edward E. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice Chairman, <br /> Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Arthur T. Bernier, J. Blaisdell, <br /> Levi G. Burnell, H. Bigelow Moore , Richard Perry, Comptroller <br /> OBSERVER: Mrs. Feakes , League of Women Voters <br /> I . MEETING WITH LEXINGTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY REPRESENTATIVES <br /> Messrs. Warren Butters (Pres. Historical Soc. ) , Luigi DiNapoli <br /> (Consultant) , and Robert Cataldo (Dir. Historical Soc. ) , met with <br /> the Committee to discuss the plans for reconstruction of the <br /> Buckman Tavern. This building is owned by the Town and is operat- <br /> ed by the Society, which has thus far paid $5,000 for studies of <br /> the reconstruction need. The estimated cost of this project is <br /> $100,000. <br /> It was stated by Mr. Butters that last year 27,000 people went <br /> through the Tavern and due to the Bi-Centennial this number will <br /> be greatly increased. To date $11, 000 has been brought in via dues <br /> and visitors. Mr. DiNapoli explained the nature of the repairs as: <br /> Immediate and urgent repair of the structure supports, the wood is <br /> rotten and cannot support present weight; repair of electrical and — <br /> heating systems. It was made very clear by Mr. DiNapoli that this <br /> job cannot be done piecemeal but must be done in entirety in order <br /> to restore the building as close as possible to its authentic state . <br /> Mr. Cataldo pointed out that if restoration plans are begun this <br /> winter, they can be completed by the Bi-Centennial in April 1975. <br /> These plans are to be presented to the Board of Selectmen and if <br /> approved, a $10,000 Reserve Fund Transfer for plans and specifica- <br /> tions will be requested. <br /> II . REPORTS OF CORRESPONDENCE RECEIVED <br /> a. Town Manager O'Connell has decided to charge the <br /> request of additional $200.00 for Conservation <br /> Commission to the Conservation Fund. (This was <br /> for Mr. Alex Zaleski (Consultant) . <br /> b. The Chairman read a letter from the Bi-Centennial <br /> Committee regarding plans for 1975 events and a <br /> budget of $100, 000. This Committee will meet with <br /> the Appropriations Committee on December 18, 1972 <br /> at 8 :30 P.M. <br /> c. A letter was received from Messrs. Elias and Theodore <br /> regarding sewer installation for Turning Mill, Demar, <br /> Partridge and Grimes Roads ; and Jeffrey Terrace. They <br /> have been informed by the Board of Selectmen that their <br /> petition has been recommended for inclusion in the budget. <br /> The Chairman will acknowledge receipt. <br />
