417 <br /> The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 7:30 P.M., on Tuesday, <br /> December 14, 1971, in Room 111, Town Office Building, Lexington . <br /> Present were Edward E . Furash, Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secre- <br /> tary, J. H. Blaisdell, Levi G . Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, Donald B. <br /> White and Richard M. Perry, Comptroller. <br /> Observing the meeting were Mrs. Sutherland and Mrs. Olsen of the LWV . <br /> Town Manager W. O'Connell joined the meeting to explain the need for <br /> a dictating machine in his office . Both the written and oral work <br /> load is heavy. He submitteda brochure of a 4 piece Norelco combina- <br /> tion dictator, transcriber, tape recorder and adapter. He estimated <br /> the price, with discount would be about $812. <br /> In <br /> r—► When queried, he stated that the Selectmen are working on the expense <br /> budgets and that personal service budgets are still foggy because of the <br /> wage guidelines of Phase II. <br /> Robert Cataldo, Chairman of the Board of Selectmen joined the meeting. <br /> With respect to Land Acquisition, he stated that the program was of <br /> prime importance-with agencies buying land having all the mechanics <br /> of implementing the program clearly defined. - <br /> Executive session was held with Mr. Cataldo at 8:40 P .M. <br /> He explained that changes are planned in the Law Department. The <br /> change would involve the retaining of a second Lawyer and possibly the <br /> revamping of the entire Department . <br /> Mr. Cataldo retired from the meeting, but executive session was con- <br /> tinued. <br /> Chairman Furash reported that- at his meeting with Mr. Maguire, Chair- <br /> man of the School Committee, also attended by Appropriation members <br /> J. Mitchell and D. White, the following points were made by Chairman <br /> Maguire: <br /> 1. The Sch. Comm. refuse to change the alleged Personal <br /> Service budget proposed.or to cut teachers . <br /> 2 . They feel that they cannot cut their expsense budget . <br /> 3. They will continue to plan their seminar for the <br /> opening of the Clarke Junior High. <br /> 4 . They have not studied the expenses of substitute <br /> teachers . <br /> 5. Reimbursement for Learning Disability programs will <br /> be up. <br /> The next meeting will be on Monday, December 20, 1971. <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 P.M. <br /> Respectfully submi ed, <br /> ' / • I. jr,„. <br /> Elizabeth M.
