k Baa' <br /> `4S <br /> The Appropriation Committee held a meeting at 7:30 P .M., on Tuesday, <br /> Q4-,otQber 26, 1971, in Room 111, Town Office Building, Lexington. <br /> Present were Edward F. Furash, Chairman, Jack L. Mitchell, Vice <br /> Chairman, Elizabeth M. Flynn, Secretary, Arthur T. Bernier, J. Har- <br /> per Blaisdell, Levi G. Burnell, Howard L. Levingston, H. Bigelow <br /> Moore and Richard M. Perry, Comptroller. <br /> The Chairman advised the members of an invitation from the Library <br /> Trustees to attend their meeting on Wednesday, October 27, 1971, at <br /> 8:00 P.M., in the Lexington Room at the Library. Vice Chairman <br /> Mitchell will attend. At the Trustees meeting, 3 proposals for <br /> Library expansion will be discussed. They are as follows: <br /> 1. 25,000 sq. ft. of new construction and complete renovation <br /> of the present library -- cost-approximately 2,270,000. <br /> U 2 . 23,000 sq. ft. of new construction and limited renovation <br /> of the present library -- cost-approximately $1,745,000. <br /> 3. 13,000 sq. ft. of new construction and minimum renovation <br /> of the present library -- cost-approximately 41,338,000. <br /> air conditioning would be an additional $40,000. <br /> Discussion was held with respect to the Mystic Valley Mental Health <br /> requests . Town Manager O'Connell will discuss with the Board of <br /> Selectmen Lexington's position regarding this budget. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED that our Committee <br /> contact the Board of Health on this matter. <br /> Representative Lincoln P. Cole, Jr., who had joined the meeting, <br /> suggested that the MVMH should pressure the State for increases . <br /> Comptroller' Perry advised that Town Manager O'Connell has sent the <br /> budget sheets to all Town departments, and that they are due to be <br /> returned by November 5, 1971. <br /> The Comptroller will prepare the Appropriation Committee's budget <br /> and present it at the next meeting. <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded, it was VOTED that the Secretary <br /> be instructed to send a wire to Governor Francis E. Sargent, in the <br /> name of the Appropriation Committee to the effect that "we urge <br /> that you veto Senate Bill S909" . <br /> Discussion was held with respect to the Committee' s philosophy for <br /> 1972. It was agreed that economic conditions are still not good <br /> and that this should be the year for the setting of priorities in <br /> Town budgets . <br /> The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 P.M. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Elizabeth M.
