Meeting of the Appropriation Committee held on Tuesday, May 27, 1969, <br /> at 7:45 P.M., in the Comptroller' s Office, Town Office Building . <br /> Members present: R. Gary, Chairman; J. Blaisdell; L. Burnell; <br /> F. Furash; J. Mitchell; H. B. Moore; D. White; <br /> L. Zehner, E. Flynn <br /> The Chairman advised that 5 bids had been received for the Junior High <br /> School and that the Permanent Building Committee was recommending that <br /> the low bid of $5,515,000. be accepted. There was a spread of 8650,000. <br /> between the low and high bid. The Chairman also advised that the Select- <br /> men and Mr. Douglass had agreed verbally on a price of $55,000. and that <br /> it was hoped that an option would be had by the time of Town Meeting . <br /> �.� Meeting was held at 8:00 P.M. with Robert Cataldo, Chairman of the Board <br /> 1.0 of Selectmen and John McSweeney, Town Engineer. Discussion was held as <br /> +.-a to the proposed new addition to the Town Office Building. Preliminary <br /> scale drawings of the addition and the interior renovation of the Police <br /> Building and its addition of a new garage were presented. R. Cataldo <br /> advised that $750,000., of which 5100,000. would be applied to the Police <br /> Building, would be needed. The criteria of 100 Square feet per desk space <br /> and 320 Square feet per office was used in anticipation of a future town <br /> population of 45,000 in approximately 15 years. Of the $8,000. approved <br /> at the Town Meeting in March $5,000. has been spent and the balance of <br /> 83,000. plus the 940,000. requested at the June Town Meeting will be <br /> applied to the drawing up of final specifications. The question of a <br /> separate section of the new addition for Civil Defense purposes to secure <br /> Federal funds was discussed but was not generally approved. R. Cataldo <br /> stated that no new departments have been added but that room for expan- <br /> sion was built into the plans . <br /> R. Cataldo questionned progress on an appointment and recommendations for <br /> the Salary Study Committee . R. Gary expressed his feeling that a member <br /> of the Appropriation Committee did not properly belong on this Committee . <br /> E. Furash will complete his draft of the strurture of the Salary Study <br /> Committee and present it to the Selectmen for review. The meeting with <br /> Mr. Cataldo and Mr. McSweeney was closed at 9:20 P.M. <br /> Recommendations for the June Special Town Meeting: <br /> Article 1 - Committee Reports - No recommendation <br /> Article 2 - Favorable action - junior High School - $5,515,000. <br /> $ 41,607.85 transferred from previous <br /> Artic les <br /> 23,392.15 transferred from E & D <br /> 65,000.00 <br /> 5,450,000.00 to be bonded over 20 years <br /> Article 3 - Favorable action - Town Office Building - to be <br /> raised on the tax levy - X40,000. <br /> Article 4 - Favorable action - Job trainees - to be raised on <br /> the tax levy - 810,000. <br />
