<br /> The School Committee has voted to recommend an appropriation of$128,254,447 for the Lexington Public Schools
<br /> (LPS) operating budget for FY2023. This amount does not include:
<br /> • The school portion of Shared Expenses (2000), below, including public facilities, employee & retiree
<br /> benefits,pension, debt service, liability insurance, and reserve funds.
<br /> • Revenue from federal, state, local, and private grants, or revolving and donation fund activity, none of
<br /> which are subject to appropriation by Town Meeting.
<br /> The request represents an increase of 3.9%over the FY2022 appropriation.

<br /> School enrollments
<br /> The student population that the district serves includes the following categories:
<br /> • PreK in-district including special education and tuition-paying general education students;
<br /> • K-12 in-district general education and special education(including METCO);
<br /> • PreK-22 out-of-district placement.
<br /> The following table shows student enrollments for the past three years and the projected enrollment for the fall of
<br /> 2022. In more normal years, enrollment figures have been somewhat volatile, and trends are difficult to spot. This
<br /> applies even more strongly this year, so a generous level of flexibility is warranted. That said, school enrollment
<br /> may be leveling off. Some grade levels have rebounded from the 2020 pandemic-related drop (Lexington High
<br /> School),but other grades have not(elementary schools).
