Meeting of the Appropriation Committee, Monday, May 8, 1967, 7:30 p.m. <br /> Present: Frank Parrish, Chairman; J. Blaisdell; M. Bretscher; E. <br /> Furash; G. Kolovson; R. Perry, Comptroller; L. Lehner; <br /> R. Souza. <br /> Warrant for June Town Meeting <br /> A preliminary list of Articles was received from the Selectmen. <br /> These were discussed if information was available. <br /> 2. Buckman Tavern Repairs - about $20,000 to be requested. <br /> 3. Comptroller's Article proposing establishment of a Municipal <br /> Data Processing Center and accepting the appropriate chapter <br /> of Massachusetts Acts. No money requested. Mr. Perry proposes <br /> this as the first step in organizing the Town's Data Processing <br /> Equipment (now owned or to be purchased in the future) in a <br /> central place under his control. <br /> 4. :Civil Defense Expenses - 33,500 to be requested by Selectmen. <br /> Al Grey brought an answer from Mr. Burrell to our tetter <br /> requesting a breakdown of costs for 1966 and 1967 of operating <br /> the warning system. There was no answer to the last question: <br /> how he is attempting to live within the March appropriation. <br /> Mr. Grey stated that the Selectmen will answer that if anyone <br /> does. He suggested that the:.Appropriation Committee has no <br /> right to ask this question. <br /> Mr. Burrell's memo estimates that $2376 will be needed to <br /> operate the warning system for the rest of 1967. Having spent <br /> • $2540 of his $5000 budget by the end of April, he has just <br /> enough money for the warning system if he curtails all other <br /> expenditures. There is no indication that he is planning to <br /> do so. <br /> 5. Conservation Commission Expenses - additional amount to be <br /> requested will be discussed with the Commission May 22. <br /> 6. Cemetery Department, Personal Services - $1,086 requested in <br /> order to work full time instead of the present 2/3 time. This <br /> was requested in March and refused. <br /> 7. Regional Refuse Disposal Planning Committee - $3,000 requested. <br /> Committee was authorized by Art. 82 of March Town Meeting, at <br /> which time no funds were requested. <br /> 8. Permanent Building Committee - $300 requested. <br /> This committee was established by Art. 73 of March Town Meeting. <br /> Appropriation Committee voted to recommend appropriation of $300. <br /> 9. Study of Bedford St. , Hartwell Ave. and Wood St. - $26,000 <br /> Same as Article 36, March Town Meeting. <br /> 10. Installation of sewer main from existing pumping station to <br /> Hamilton Road. Authorized in 1965; additional money needed. <br /> Amount to be requested is unknown. <br /> Bedford Sewer Project - amount unknown <br /> 11. Construction of 500 ft. of Mass. Ave. - $14,000 to be requested. <br /> Money has already been appropriated by Town assuming state aid. <br /> State will not reimburse because of tree. <br /> 12. Hydrological land use study of Great Meadows - $10,000 may be <br /> requested. This may not be legally possible. Town may not be <br /> allowed to spend money studying land which Arlington owns. <br /> 13. Emerson Road from Adams St. 410 feet westerly - $30,000 requested. <br /> Same as Article 57, March Town Meeting <br /> 14 - 25 Zoning Articles, Planning Board Articles <br /> 26. Anticipation of Revenue - no explanation available <br />
