Pierre Northrup reviewed the stedus of <br /> the Fire Department andstated that in 1917 the <br /> statute was passed providing for a permanent chief <br /> of the Fire Department through the Tenure of <br /> Office Act accepted by the Town , and it eras his <br /> understanding that the chief engineer then became <br /> the permanent chief of the department , andthat this <br /> vote could not go into effect inasmuch as it could <br /> not change the statute accepted by the town . <br />
