HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-12-09-YC-min RECEIVED 2022 01 III ells,5:..15 1I3uem DECEMBER 2021 MEETING "roWN CUM( Town of Lexington Q E I NI -rOIN M Lexington Youth Commission Minutes of the meeting held on Thursday,December 9",2021 Members Absent: Adeline,Duncan, Skylar,Nick Kelm, Marina, Marilyn Adults Absent: Karen Duprey, Jimmy Athens, Tom Romano, Kristina Hankins Read and approved November Meeting Minutes We begin by debriefing the Thanksgiving Dinners Deliveries - we delivered 30 full turkey dinners working with the Rotary Club - we had problems at Avalon deliveries with door answering. Next year we will call ahead to make sure someone is there to receive it Next up we debriefed the food pantry drive - went very well.Not as much food was donated but it was much quicker and better - Something we can do better is remake the flyer so that people know what foods they can put in. - goods the food pantry needs more of should be actively put on the pantry(ask the pantry the month of for it) - Do they take toiletries? - EVERY MEMBER OF LYC needs to participate Santa and Depot Square debrief - Everyone loved dressing up in holiday costumes, and we need to do it again. It was received well by residents. We got lots of compliments,request for picture taking, and made social media. - The bells were a big hit,we had 300 bells for kids,we had to turn away adults. - Maddie Lucente put everyone in the mood, and invited LYC up to sing and dance. Toms time - "I have advertised some teen programs for anyone to register for and I wanted to let you all know of them. - 1. Dave & Busters, February 4th 1-3pm - 2. Xtreme Craze, March 4th 1-3pm - 3. 8 Ball Tournament,Jan 28th— Feb 18th. 7-8pm The Youth Advisory Board that I have been meeting with is looking to have a mural contest here at the Community Center and I was wondering if you all would help spread the word?The contest is still in the works but the basis would be capturing the Community Spirit of Lexington. I wanted to mention that this group wants to try and run a drive in movie night and we would love to combine efforts as it was something that you all wanted to do." Regina talked about some MLK day options - Lexington MLK Day of Service group is asking for volunteers for virtual and a few in-person events. More information to follow(Link from Regina for info) - An option for all of LYC to participate in is the food sorting and packaging for families at risk in arlington.2-4pm on MLK Day(2/17). List of those interested: Regina, Maddie, Ana, Serena,Ella, Maya, Ava, Izzy, Charlie, 011ie, Cam, Sandy, Elena,Kennice, Carolyn, Ella,Avery, Emily, Sofia, Matthew, Andrew. Shannon generously purchased and gave us all Under Armour LYC Sweatshirts. She simply is the best, and we want to again give her a huge THANK YOU! We ended the meeting by drawing the winners for our raffle prize. - The winners were: Matthew's Grandmother, Elena's Neighbor - We need to have a conversation at our January Meeting about participation.We had a number of members who did not participate. We did not meet our goal. Our next meeting will be via Zoom on Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 7:00 pm. A Zoom link and password will be sent out with the agenda on Monday, January 10th.
