HomeMy WebLinkAbout2021-05-19-REC-min (Lincoln Park Subcommittee) Lincoln Park Minutes from meeting on May19, 2021 In attendance LP committee members: Brian Kelley Joanne Shorter David Williams Robert Pressman Lynn Wilson Non-committee members Wesley Wirth Andrew Dorner Lisa O'Brien—liaison from Rec. committee (arrived late, after Rec. Committee meeting) 1. Brian Kelley and Joanne Shorter were selected to be Chairman and Vice chair of the Lincoln Park subcommittee by a 5-0 vote. 2. Communication with Andy Dorner, resident of Baskin Road, about possible garden at the Granite Forest(GF)in memory of his wife who recently passed. Wesley Wirt shared thoughts on Dorner's proposal. Wesley's description of LP--rebuild area using native plant materials. Poplars and 3 American beech trees and a wild flower meadow outside the GF The intent is to have a wild flower seed mix in the meadow on perimeter of GF, and/or plugs, and/or small pots. Discussion followed on what should be planted on the interior of the GF. Possibly flowering perennials with low growing cover. David W. suggested meeting on site. Andy Dorner agreed. Will meet there. Also agreed about use of native plants. Suggested that shrubs would be home for birds, etc. and thought that right now more weeds than growth in GF. Bob P. commented that some of the trees in GF not doing well. There is a need to check on the health of the trees. Also asked if soil is good enough for perennials. Wesley-- the soil was amended and soil added when built GF. Could and should probably add to it. At 9:05, Andrew D. and Wesley signed off. 2. Update on work by Parterre/Gabe, and Barnard. Boardwalk-- Brian K. repaired it. Bags of invasive plants were still at site from last Friday. Brian K. will call Lex. DPW about it. He will also stop at LP on Friday to talk with Gabe. 3. Memorial to Cal Shen. Temporary sign is gone and permanent sign is in place. 4. Leslie Masson—vote was unanimous (5-0) to recommend to the Recreation Committee that she join the LP committee. Question was raised if Andrew D. should be asked to join the committee. Decided not to do so at this time. 5. Vincent Shire, Ronald Pies--both reached out to David W. about poetry for GF. David has let Carmine Thomas know about them. Carmine is the chair of the subcommittee for the inscribing of the granite pieces at the GF. She is getting in touch with them. 7. Library Story Walk Library group (Koren Stenbridge and Elissa_)walked through park on Friday to mark where they might want the displays for the story walk to go. 32 displays in total. We are waiting for them to get back to us with this information. Short discussion about the previously mentioned places for the story walk,but will wait for the library's plan before take to a vote. 8. Plantings around scoreboard at Lincoln Field 93. There is concern about the scoreboard being near active area and lax has asked LP committee to plant around it. Question about what will grow there. Will look at the area at the next on-site meeting. 9. Dedication of Granite Forest. Agreement that not really ready at this time for dedication. But also agreed that the engravings do not need to be completed before a dedication. 10. Brochure update Last updated in 2010. Suggestions: QR code to post at the site to send people to a website Website development? 9:30am 5/27/21 scheduled walk thru at the granite forest with discussion at the site.
