Community Farming Committee
Meeting Minutes
November 18, 2015

A meeting of the Community Farming Committee (CFC) was held on November 18,
2015 in the Public Works Building, Room 125. In attendance were: Chairman Michael
Bliss, members Alan Wrigley, Raul Marques, and Tom Olivier. Also in attendance were
Carolyn Goldstein and Allison Guerette from the Lexington Community Farm Coalition,
Inc. (LexFarm).

Meeting called to order at 7:30 PM by Chairman Michael Bliss.

First order of business was a discussion about how to move forward with the
Conservation Restriction. Several suggestions to improve the consistency and to refine
the language about recreational uses were advanced and the Chairmen will attempt to
incorporate them into the restriction for our December meeting.

Lex Farm is working to get a realistic idea of what they would like to do in the future
especially with regard to potential additional indoor space. Lex Farm will provide a
diagram or plan of current indoor space which will show potential areas which they have
identified as potential sites for additional indoor space. These are in response to our
discussion about the restriction of additional structures on the farm as currently set forth
in the restriction.

Water and sewer service has been brought to within 6-8 feet from the rear of the farm
stand.

The farm closed out the season at the end of October and they are very happy with the
year. Next year they are hopeful that more of their CSA will be produced on the farm.

They are looking for an assistant for the farmer which will free the farmer to do more
education.

Working on capital planning among issues being reviewed is a desire to get more reliable
equipment and to own it.

Farm has been approached by people from the Farmers Market to perhaps have a
presence at the farm in the off season.

There is the potential for a cooperative venture with some small farmers to use the
greenhouse for seedlings and more. The small farmers would pay the cost and Lex Farm
could learn from some experienced greenhouse growers.

We need two additional members for the committee and we are encouraged to seek
volunteers.

At 9:30 PM Upon motion duly made and seconded it was voted to adjourn.

Respectfully submitted Alan Wrigley

1
