HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015-06-09-SC-PMRS-minLexington School Committee's Policy Manual Subcommittee June 9, 2015 at 1:30pm Lower Conference Room, Room 1 Central Office, 146 Maple Street Attendance: Subcommittee members Jessie Steigerwald Chair, Judy Crocker, MASC Consultant Jim Hardy, Assistant Superintendent for Student Services Ellen Sugita, Assistant Superintendent for Business Operations MaryEllen Dunn, Superintendent Paul Ash Ms. Steigerwald called the meeting to order at 1:30pm. 1. Review and Discussion with MASC Consultant Jim Hardy in consultant with Central Administrative staff: • JKAA - Restraint of Students with Special Needs: HOLD. Discussed with Ms. Sugita that MASC is currently working on a new policy draft that will be ready for distribution in July 2015. • JKF- Discipline of Students with Special Needs: HOLD. Discussed with Ms. Sugita that MASC is currently working on a new policy draft that will be ready for distribution in July 2015. • Suicide response - This in included in the crisis /emergency readiness manual and should not have a stand -alone policy. • Child abuse - This topic is found under Student Welfare (JL) and thusly does not need a stand -alone policy. • JFAB - Policy on Non - Resident Students: email draft to Mr. Hardy. • GCCD - Domestic Violence Leave Act: The MASC policy contains no controversial language. • IKF - Graduations Requirements: LPS graduation requirements cannot be found online. SC members need to review all handbooks annually. The High school handbook needs to be checked to ensure that it contains the graduation requirements. A further conversation should be had with principal Laura Lasa. • IK - Student Progress Report: Dr. Ash was OK with its language. • IC - School Year and ICA - School Calendar: Mr. Hardy does not have these Lexington policies so they should be placed on HOLD. • JIC - Student Discipline, JII - Student Complaints and Grievances, and JK - Student Conduct: These Chapter 222 related policies will be changing this summer for students will no longer be able to lose credit for disciplinary absences, only for extended family trips, non - approved absences, etc. MASC is currently working on a new policy draft that will be ready for distribution in July 2015. • DGA - Authorized Signatures, DJ, and DJA: refer to Ms. Dunn • GCBB - Employment of principals needs labor contract to be legal. o Substitute last sentence and delete first sentence. • IHFCA - Hold for Ms. Dunn • IJOC - use same language as school volunteer policy. • CE - incorporate new chart from Ms. Souza 3.
