RECREATION COMMITTEE <br />Recreation Committee <br />L. to R. — Robert Davison, Richard Sparrow, Paul Hanson, Vincent Hayes, Benedict Bertini <br />(Director of Recreation Programs), and Robert Bond (Chairman of the Committee) <br />School gymnasium, featuring gymnastics, basketball, games etc., on Saturday mornings <br />December - April. <br />The retarded and emotionally disturbed childrens program includes bowling, basket- <br />ball, singing, dancing rope climbing etc., is held on Saturday mornings December - April at <br />the Franklin School. At the conclusion of the program, these children are then driven to the <br />Hayden pool for an hours swim. <br />Men's physical fitness classes at the high school gymnasium and field house features <br />basketball, volley ball, weight training, running, jump rope, agility drills, etc. <br />The ladies exercise classes on Tuesday evenings at the high school gymnasium and <br />field house runs October through April and also features basketball, running and light exer- <br />cises to make the body beautiful, etc. <br />Badminton for adults was extended another month at the Muzzey Junior High gymna- <br />sium, October through May, and functions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. <br />Ice skating areas available when weather permits are Adams, Harrington, Center <br />(all purpose play area), Kinneens, Fiske, Old Reservoir, Sutherland Heights, Franklin and <br />Hastings. <br />Golf lessons are given every Spring during March and April in the high school field <br />house on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and are sponsored by the recreation committee <br />under the direction of the recreation director and golf pro. <br />Reservations for various recreation areas in the town may be reserved at the recre- <br />ation office in the Town Hall. These include tennis courts, the cinder track at Center, ath- <br />letic fields throughout the town and Willards Woods. All persons using Willards Woods <br />picnic area who wish to use the fireplaces in the area, must obtain a permit from the fire <br />department. Over six thousand reservations have been issued in less than four years. <br />20 <br />
