BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION <br />The Lexington Bicentennial Committee (LBC) organized, with the <br />assistance of Elizabeth Lahikainen and Gloria Sitzman, a year long series <br />of activities concentrating on textile related crafts, primarily needle- <br />work. The quilts, the folk art, the fashions, etc., - all "In Praise of <br />Hands ", conveyed to the town delights of past and present generations and, <br />something not of this world but of man himself - a fitting focus for <br />Lexington's and the nation's 200th anniversary. <br />A listing of permanent bicentennial contributions is summarized in <br />the accompanying chart. <br />Fund Raising <br />Fund raising was not neglected. The Lexington Bicentennial Corpora- <br />tion, a separate entity from the LBC, was authorized by the town and <br />chartered by the state in 1973. Its members are Richard Michelson, <br />president; Anthony Mancini, secretary; Robert Reynolds, treasurer; <br />Alfred Busa, Cornelius Cronin, Jack Maloney and Stephen Politi. <br />The corporation has undertaken three major projects - a commemorative <br />medallion, historic booklet, and a bicentennial poster, to raise money for <br />a permanent bicentennial memorial and to defray the cost of Lexington's <br />bicentennial celebration; these items will be on sale through 1976. <br />Lexington was awarded $20,000 for law enforcement assistance on <br />Patriots' Day by the New England Regional Commission and additionally <br />received in -lieu donations of almost $50,000 worth of personnel and <br />equipment from individuals, businesses, and through the Joint Military <br />Bicentennial Coordinating Committee. <br />The town was also highly successful in qualifying for matching grants <br />from the state. <br />The Bicentennial Committee <br />Current members of the LBC, now in its fifth year, include <br />Lincoln B.
