VISITORS CENTER <br />Description <br />The Visitors Center is located on Massachusetts Avenue across from the Battle <br />Green. Visitor services are located on the first floor, with the second floor housing <br />the Chamber of Commerce. Running behind the Visitors Center is the popular <br />Minuteman Commuter Bikeway. The Visitors Center property has the following <br />characteristics: <br />LOCATION: 1875 Massachusetts Avenue <br />YEAR OPENED: 1965 (current location) <br />LOT SIZE: 2.5 acres <br />BUILDING SIZE: 4,500 SF <br />OWNER: Town of Lexington <br />ZONING: RS (One - Family Dwelling Residential <br />District) <br />CURRENT USE: Visitors Center <br />BUILDING ASSESSED VALUE (FY13): $1.08 <br />million <br />LAND ASSESSED VALUE (FY13): $567,000 <br />TOTAL ASSESSED VALUE (FY13): $1.65 <br />million <br />Previous Analyses <br />A 2013 Lexington Visitors Center Revised Programmatic Report, prepared by Dawn <br />McKenna, Chairman, Tourism Committee; Mary Jo Bohart and Jean Terhune, <br />Lexington Chamber of Commerce; and Colin P. Smith AIA, Colin Smith Architecture, <br />Inc., Chairman, Chamber Board of Directors, and revised by the Lexington Tourism <br />Committee, described the space and building needs of the Visitors Center. It <br />outlined several key building issues, including: <br />• Building is not fully accessible (no handicap access to the second floor) <br />• Landscaping deficiencies <br />• Exterior building deficiencies (e.g., design, lighting, bicycle racks, seating and <br />signage) <br />Recent Actions <br />The Tourism Committee solicited public feedback on the Visitors Center's <br />programmatic needs earlier this year and revised the 2012 study in March 2013.
