MINUTES
Greenways Corridor Committee
January 27, 2014, 4:30-6:00pm
Legion Room, Cary Hall
Lexington, Massachusetts
Members Present
: Rick Abrams, Alex Dohan, Eileen Entin, Bob Hausslein, Paul Knight, Keith
Ohmart, Mike Tabaczinski
Other Attendees
: none
Votes
:
• December 16, 2013, meeting Minutes - Approved
Notes/Announcements:
• The rotary at Hancock and Burlington Streets is to be rebuilt this summer, which will
necessitate re-marking that segment of Route A.
• Howie Vogel, Recreation Committee liaison, has stepped down since he has moved out of
town. There is not yet a new liaison.
Current Business Review
:
• The Board of Selectmen has approved GCC participation in the Green Routes Coalition.
Rick has been attending meetings and will continue as our liaison.
• ACROSS Lexington update – We all looked closely at the proposed Route C map.
A lengthy discussion followed regarding the route itself and also the goals of the ACROSS
Lexington project as a whole. Some specific points considered were:
length of route
crossing of Route 2A
which Town owns shore of Arlington Reservoir
how Route C would connect with Routes A & B, if at all
how to choose route options – aesthetics vs. efficiency
what is the best way to take advantage of Town conservation trails
• It was decided to reconsider the proposed Route C, particularly the segment that includes
Arlington’s Great Meadow. We should all try, as time and weather allow, to walk that area for
ideas. Avoid crossing to the north side of Lowell Street.
• Remove Whipple Hill from Route C, with the intention of including that property in a
future route.
• One specific goal for ACROSS was verbalized: Every property in Lexington should be half
a mile or less from at least one ACROSS route by the time we are finished.
• Another point made was that the Town has set aside green space parcels and a GCC goal
should be to connect these “green pearls” a la Emerald Necklace.
• Keith will talk to Karen Mullins about getting some of Emily Schadler’s time to work with
Mike to update the maps for ACROSS Lexington.
Reports/Updates
:
• Update on Bike/Walk Week was tabled until next meeting.
New Business
:
• None at this time.
