<br />SITE COUNCIL 11/15/13 <br />ATTENDANCE: Nimisha Asthagiri, Russ Bosbach, Angela Chang, Meg Collela, <br />Betsy Conway, Naomi Priver, Deidre Schadler <br />1.Approve minutes from 10/25/13 <br />2.Enrollment <br />a.last school committee Dr Ash said heÈd talk about enrollment and numbers, Fiske <br />is overcrowded (IEP program -- 3 or 4 classrooms for students with autism by <br />state law) <br />i.each school has a different program; Bridge has a social/emotional program <br />b.a lot of misinformation out there; NOT more kids for Bridge if redistricting <br />c.conversation about size of Bridge and capacity <br />i.architects said around 520 <br />ii.Ðrm has come in and reevaluated; will present on Tuesday the new data <br />iii.talking about how large 1st and 4th grade classes are <br />1.talking about 5 sections of 2nd and 5th grades next year <br />2.right now 2 classrooms in First Grade have 25 students, which by <br />guidelines will have an aide <br />3.guidelines are limits of 1st grade 25, 4th grade when over 26 <br />iv.5 kindergartens, are actually shrinking so next year will likely only have 4 Ðrst <br />grades <br />v.talking about specialists, if more sections will have another gym teacher and <br />need to use gym in different time (ie RussÈs lunchtime), same for other <br />specialists as gym/art/music teachers are at full-time and schedule is maxed <br />vi.Bridge is largest school now and projected to continue to be so <br />1.expected to have 26 class sections next year <br />vii.new Estabrook open in February; planned to have 5 additional classrooms <br />viii.2 new classrooms at Bridge to be used next year for extra class <br />1.one is PALS program (9 kids) can be relocated <br />2.one is resource room <br />3.we do have 28 classrooms, if need a 27th room will need to shufÑe <br />specialists, ie reading <br />d.school Committee meeting Tuesday at Clarke (expect large turnout) <br />e.current enrollment 550; Avalon around 120 kids which is about 20% <br />i.if increase furter will limit ability to have all-school morning meeting; would have <br />to split in 2 groups so would not want too large <br />ii.have looked at lunch schedule for next year with the 26 sections; try to <br />condense times for lunch may have to have earlier or later <br />f.Thought if we do have more students, what do we request we need <br />¥thought about another gym teacher, art, etc <br />¥if PTA needs larger space for event, can request to use HS <br />¥Nimisha feels is getting hard time to use HS, had 1000 people at International <br />Night (if talk with Meg can help facilitate with Pat Goddard) <br />¥Guidance, nursing, specialists, aides, SSPs will need to increase <br /> <br />
