TOWN OF LEXINGTON <br />COMMUNITY PRESERVATION COMMITTEE <br />General Criteria for Project Selection <br />The Lexington Community Preservation Committee reviews proposals that are eligible for funding <br />under the Community Preservation Act (CPA), specifically projects for: <br />• The acquisition, creation, and preservation of open space; <br />• The acquisition, preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration of historic resources; <br />• The acquisition, creation, and preservation of land or resources for recreational use; <br />• The acquisition, creation, preservation, and support of community housing (including items such <br />as annual payments to the housing authority, or to programs that provide grants, loans, rental <br />assistance, security deposits interest -rate write -downs or other forms of assistance); <br />• The rehabilitation and restoration of open space and community housing that is acquired or created <br />with CPA funding; and <br />• The rehabilitation and restoration of recreational resources, irrespective of their purchase source. <br />Preference will be given to proposals that: <br />• Preserve or utilize currently owned Town assets; <br />• Preserve the essential character of the Town as described in the Comprehensive Plan; <br />• Are consistent with other current planning documents that have received wide scrutiny and input <br />and have been adopted by the Town; <br />• Receive endorsement by other municipal boards or departments; <br />• Save resources that would otherwise be threatened; <br />• Benefit a currently under - served population; <br />• Serve more than one CPA purpose (especially in linking open space, recreation and community <br />housing); <br />• Demonstrate practicality and feasibility to be implemented expeditiously and within budget; <br />• Produce an advantageous costibenefit value; <br />• Leverage additional public and /or private funds; and <br />• Provide long -term contributions to the Town. <br />Category Specific Criteria <br />Open space proposals that receive preference are those which: <br />• Preserve and /or restore threatened or deteriorating public lands; <br />• Permanently protect important wildlife habitat, and areas containing diverse vegetation, geologic <br />features, and habitat types, particularly those supporting threatened or endangered species; <br />• Promote connectivity of habitat and protect or enhance wildlife corridors; <br />• Provide opportunities for passive recreation and environmental education; <br />• Provide connections with existing trails or potential trail linkages; <br />• Preserve scenic views and those areas which border a scenic road; <br />• Provide flood control /storage; <br />• Preserve important surface water bodies, including wetlands, vernal pools or riparian zones; and <br />• Preserve priority parcels identified in the Open Space Plan. <br />
