HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012-12-21-2020-min Town of Lexington Lexington 2020 Vision Committee Minutes of Meeting of December 21, 2012 st 2020 Vision Committee A meeting of the was held on Friday, December 21 at 7:45 a.m. in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room in the Town Office Building at 1625 Massachusetts Avenue. A quorum of 6 was present. Present: Members Fernando Quezada, Jane Warren, Dan Krupka, Bhumip Khasnabish, Andrew Dixon, Marian Cohen; Liaison George Burnell (BOS) Staff: Candy McLaughlin, Michelle Stevens Absent: Members Alan Wrigley, Chuck Benson, Peter Lee, Peter Enrich; Liaisons Greg Zurlo (PB), Margaret Coppe (SC) Others present: Jeanne Krieger Action Items:  The Committee will launch a more detailed publicity campaign for the community survey in early January.  The Town will print hard copies of the community survey. Candy will check with Town Departments about boxes for collecting hard copy responses to the community survey. The meeting acted on the following items: st The Committee approved the minutes from December 21, 2012. Heard and considered supporting February 26 community conversation on climate change: Jeanne Krieger said the League of Women Voters is holding a community conversation regarding the impacts of climate change on Lexington. She said the event will last two hours, and the League is hoping to have 200 participants. She also said the format will be similar to last year’s conversation, which involved an introductory speaker and round table discussions. Jeanne said the speaker is still undecided. George said it is a difficult topic because it’s a global problem that is not necessarily community focused. Fernando asked if the focus of the conversation will be prevention or adaption. Jeanne said the discussion will be on the local impact of climate change and Lexington’s response. She asked the 2020 Vision Committee to cosponsor the community conversation, with the responsibilities of endorsing the event and helping recruit participants. Fernando said the climate change conversation aligns with the Committee’s mission of addressing future issues in the present. The 2020 Vision Committee agreed to cosponsor the community conversation. Heard and discussed an update from the subcommittee on demographic change: Dan said the subcommittee is moving ahead with the interview portion of the process. He said the subcommittee developed guidelines and practiced interviewing with Peter Lee. Dan said the subcommittee has plans to interview other Asian-Americans in the Chinese American Association of Lexington (CAAL), as well as those on Town Boards/Committees and School Parent-Teacher Associations. He said they hope to have the interviews completed by April or May of 2013. Continued discussing community survey process, schedule and publicity: The Committee reviewed the results from the practice tests and revised the survey based on the feedback. The Committee decided rd to keep the survey live for four weeks, with a launch date of Wednesday, January 23. Fernando suggested a more detailed publicity campaign in early January.
