2020 Vision Committee
A meeting of the was held on Friday, April 12 at 7:45 a.m. in the Selectmen’s
Meeting Room in the Town Office Building at 1625 Massachusetts Avenue.
Members Present: Fernando Quezada, Dan Krupka, Marian Cohen, Andrew Dixon, Bhumip Khasnabish,
School Committee Liaison Margaret Coppe
Staff: Candy McLaughlin, Michelle Stevens
Members Absent: Alan Wrigley, Peter Lee, Chuck Benson, Peter Enrich, Jane Warren, Greg Zurlo, Joe
Pato
Others present: Carroll Ann Bottino
Action Items:
Meet with the Town Manager to discuss the preliminary results of the survey and receive
direction on his interests in the data analysis.
Fernando will draft a press release to be released in the Minuteman thanking the community for
the survey responses.
Marian will begin to analyze the results of the survey.
Staff will discuss the possibility of a mini Citizens’ Academy.
Approved the minutes from March 15, 2013.
The meeting acted on the following items:
Discussed community survey:
Marian presented the raw data from the results of the survey. She said
she only had the basic findings and asked the Committee for suggestions on data analysis. Dan asked if
Marian was surprised with any of the data. Marian said she did not see any anomalies. She said most
people responded that the Town was doing well, so she suggested focusing on the data that was either
below or above average. Candy said the Town Manager would be interested in seeing the raw data, in
addition to their analysis. Margaret said the results of this survey will be useful in the annual goal setting
sessions this summer. The Committee thanked Marian for her work on the survey.
Planned committee work for the rest of the year
: Candy said many of the members are not able to
attend the 2020 Vision meetings given the current schedule, so she proposed moving the meetings to
primarily be held on the third Friday of the month. She asked the committee members to respond via
email.
Reviewed progress of subcommittee on demographic change:
The Committee approved adding Martin
Hwang to the subcommittee. Dan said they are continuing with the previously discussed interviews. He
said an interesting outcome of the interviews is the suggestion for a mini Citizens’ Academy. He said
everyone is not interested in the in-depth course and that a three-hour session providing a brief overview
of town government would be very helpful. Candy said the staff will discuss the possibility of a mini
Citizens’ Academy.
