Panasse Hangen Brustlin,Inc. <br /> Executive Summary <br /> The West Lexington Greenway represents the largest swath of semi-contig- <br /> uous open space within the Town of Lexington, Massachusetts.The <br /> Greenway is approximately five miles in length, lying west of Route 128/ <br /> Interstate 95,and extending from Lincoln Street and the City of Cambridge <br /> Reservoir in the southern part of town northward to Turning Mill Road at <br /> the Burlington Iine.The study area is largely bounded on the west by the <br /> towns of Lincoln and Bedford and on the east by Route 128/Interstate 95• <br /> The NSTAR power line easement provides the central spine of the Green- <br /> way corridor connecting many diverse and beautiful open space and <br /> conservation areas aligned along this five mile segment and resembling a <br /> string of pearls. <br /> The West Lexington Greenway Project was initiated in recognition of the <br /> tremendous existing and potential open space and recreational resources <br /> the Greenway holds.The Greenway site is cultural, historically and ecologi- <br /> cally important to the Town of Lexington and to the region.The Greenway <br /> Project,endorsed and supported by the Town's Recreation Department <br /> and the Conservation Commission,envisions a network of varying types of <br /> trails, including universally accessible sections, linking the town's extensive <br /> open space and conservation lands located within the Greenway study <br /> area.Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc. (VHB) has been tasked with the prepara- <br /> tion of a Greenway Master Plan.The purpose of creating a Master Plan is to <br /> create a detailed picture of the entire area in order to conduct an informed <br /> planning process for trail alignment and improvement.VHB has worked <br /> closely with the West Lexington GreenwayTask Force, a volunteer commit- <br /> tee,throughout the Master Planning process. <br /> West Lexington Greenway Master Plan <br />
