Executive Summary <br />Charge to the Task Force <br />The Community Center Task Force was charged with developing a report about the <br />concept of a community center, including recommendations, to serve the <br />intellectual, physical, and social needs of Seniors, other adults, teens and youth in <br />our community. <br />Specifically the Task Force will: <br />• Explore other towns' approaches to providing these services in an effort to <br />determine best practices <br />• Confirm the stakeholders <br />• Identify the services they need <br />• Determine how the services get delivered 1 <br />The charge emphasized that we were to investigate needs without considering <br />available or potentially available facilities. Therefore, we focused on community <br />needs and how they could be met. We then created a concept that could meet the <br />needs that we found. <br />Process <br />To carry out our work we were to: <br />• Explore other towns' approaches to providing these services in an effort to <br />determine best practices <br />• Visited eleven sites <br />Arlington, Burlington, Cambridge, Chatham, Harwich, Hingham, <br />Hudson, Newton, North Andover, Wellesley, Weston <br />• Conducted online and phone research on nearby towns <br />Acton, Bedford, Belmont, Brookline, Concord, Natick, <br />Needham, Sudbury, Watertown, Westford, <br />Westwood, Winchester <br />• Confirm the stakeholders and <br />• Identify the services they need <br />• Conducted a town -wide survey <br />1,236 responses: approximately 4% of population <br />and 11% of households <br />1 Complete charge can be found in the Appendix. <br />November 26, 2012 Final Report 3 <br />
