Considerable discussion ensued about
Larry Smith’s articles at Town Meeting, the consultant’s final report, and the role of the
Task Force. The group supported distributing the handout at Town Meeting soon, and
agreed that the Task Force should not take a position on the articles. The role of the 2020
Vision process is to focus on the big picture, provide information and frame public debate.

Demographic Change Task Force membership and charge.
The time frame originally
anticipated for the new Task Force’s work was too optimistic, and the schedule will need to
be pushed back. Candy will see if one of the current volunteers is willing to chair the Task
Force, and set a first meeting date in mid-May. Follow-up recruitment will include:
??
Peter will send another notice to TMMA asking members to reach out to their
networks and identify potential TF members.
??
Fernando will reach out to the scoping group to see if any members would like to
continue on the Task Force.
??
Carl will follow up with the Board of Health on their suggestions for membership,
and ask Paul Ash if someone from the school community would like to participate.
Fernando will contact Tom Diaz.
??
Peter and Candy will ask Jim Purvis and Tony Siesfeld, respectively, if they can
suggest people to suggest potential TF members.
??
Current Task Force volunteers will be asked at their first meeting about ideas for
additional members to round out the group’s expertise.

Candy will edit the Task Force information document to reflect the unique charge of this
group: it will focus on gathering and analyzing data, evaluating demographic trends, and
setting a long-term context for future Town service needs. Carl stated that the Town is
falling behind in addressing changing public safety needs. He already has a number of
people in mind to meet with the Task Force.

Other.

??
Candy noted that the Selectmen’s ad hoc Climate Action Plan Committee, a successor
to the Sustainability Task Force, has scheduled a public meeting to present preliminary
findings on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00 pm in the Cary Library Meeting Room.
??
George suggested that the way rapidly advancing communications technologies are
changing how the Town needs to do business could be an area for 2020 Vision to
address next.
??
The next 2020 Vision Committee meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 9.
