Lexington Arts Council (LAC) Meeting
Minutes for October 2, 2006

Present: Barbara Ciampa, Jackie Hawkinson, Bill Janovitz, Janet Post. Absent: Mary Trometer

Chairperson Barbara Ciampa called the meeting to order and announced that our Treasurer, Mary
Trometer, was recovering from emergency surgery.

LAC Membership

Jackie Hawkinson has been officially appointed to the Lexington Arts Council by the Selectmen
and was warmly welcomed to the Council. Barbara noted that although Allan Adolph’s MCC
term on the Council expires this month, the Selectmen’s appointment lasts until September,
2007. She will contact him about his intentions.

Minutes of September 11th
The Secretary’s minutes were accepted.

Treasurer’s Report
There was no Treasurer’s Report due to treasurer’s absence.

Last Year’s Grant Approval
Janet called Marcia Steere of Sharing a New Song (SANS), a chorus which LAC approved last
year to receive $750, but who hasn’t submitted the forms for reimbursement. Marcia said SANS
performed in Lexington on May 6, 2006 and said that Joan Lowry was to have sent the
reimbursement forms to LAC. Janet will follow up.

New Grant Proposals – Distribution of Fliers
LAC has received two grant applications as of October 2. Janet will remind the schools of the
th
October 15 deadline. Barbara posted a notice about the LCC grants in Cary Library as well as
in banks, the bread store and coffee shops. Jackie will put a reminder in the Follen Church e-mail
bulletin. Another idea is to put a reminder on the cable TV community bulletin board.

Three Apples Story-Telling Festival
Jackie will call Bedford Cultural Council to see if they gave money to the Three Apple Story
th
Telling Festival in Cary Library on September 30. LAC gave $260.

Request from Town Manager
The Town Manager is having another session of an on-going training seminar in Cary Hall for
Town committee and board members on October 21, 9–11:30 a.m. The purpose of this session is
to better understand some of the issues that may arise when serving on a Town board or
committee. Jackie and Janet will try to attend.

Correspondence from MCC – Patrons Fund
Bill has MCC information regarding spreading the word about local councils. Bill called Joan
Reddy, former chair of LAC, about the Patrons Fund. Joan felt that it was too expensive and time
consuming to do a repeat mailing. We decided not to conduct more fundraising until the
proposed LAC gift to Cary Library has been resolved.
