In attendance: Chair Fernando Quezada, Marian Cohen, Mollie Garberg, Margaret Coppe, Ann Redmon, George Burnell, Candy McLaughlin, Matt Courchene Meeting Began: 7:52 am. Minutes from the September 6 meeting were approved with one spelling correction. Demographic Change Scoping Group: Members of the 2020 Committee suggested that a school administrator join the Scoping Group (and then potentially become an ongoing member of the 2020 Vision Committee.) There have been about four names proposed for the Scoping Group; the ideal number of members is six. The group will be encouraged to move quickly once it is formed and reach benchmarks within a scheduled timeline. Economic Development: The Committee discussed the public interest surrounding Shire moving to Lexington. Many residents had questions for Shire representatives and Town officials during the public forums that discussed the Shire project. The Committee stated how this kind of enterprise is something new to Lexington. Traffic will be an issue when Shire completes the relocation process. Future development at Hanscom Field is another issue of major community concern. Environmental considerations and factors related to economic development are very important to 2020 Vision. Mollie Garberg recommended that a new group take on the issues of economic development once the Task Force has completed its work. Mollie reported that the Town has hired a consultant for goal setting and evaluation of the economic development potential within Lexington. Climate Action Committee: The group is reviewing prospective software for tracking carbon emissions. They have also discussed the need for an intern to do data entry. Next Steps: The 2020 Committee may want to revisit the list of 27 goals. The goals can be reexamined and evaluated from a number of perspectives, particularly demographic issues that are of interest to all three elected boards.
