2020 Vision Committee Meeting Minutes

Meeting minutes from the December 8 meeting were approved.
Economic Development Task Force
The Committee feels that having a group of stakeholders to sell the idea of an Economic
Development Officer for the Town will be helpful. The Committee would like to bring the
following people/groups together in February: John Rosenberg, Mary Jo Bohart, Center
Committee, representatives from businesses along Hartwell and Hayden Avenues, Planning
Board, Business Roundtable, Lexington Retailers Group, Tourism Committee, Sharon
Spaulding, Kevin Maguire, and Eric Shapiro. The Committee suggested that Fernando reach out
to these people/groups and facilitate the meeting.
The plan is to have an Economic Development Task Force for the fall, but its scope will depend
on whether the Economic Development Officer position is restored. Richard stated that the
Selectmen will know by March whether or not the position will be included in an override.
Sustainable Lexington Task Force
The Committee would like to hold a meeting in May with the following people/groups in order
to discuss the creation of a Sustainable Lexington Task Force: Conservation Committee, Global
Warming Action Committee, Bicycle Committee, Sidewalk Committee, Anti-idling Committee,
Permanent Building Committee, Citizens for Lexington Conservation, and Hanscom Area Towns
Committee.
Progress Report
The group stated that the Progress Report will provide a reminder of the long-range framework
for 2020 Vision. It can help stimulate new members and participation in 2020 Vision. The
suggestion was made to prepare a brief, small printed piece for town-wide distribution, with
mention of the Committee’s web page and the availability of hard copy information at the Town
Office Building.
Website
There was discussion of a new look for the 2020 Vision web page, including a regular feature
such as Question of the Week or Goal of the Month. Candy will bring ideas to the next meeting.
Recruitment
There was discussion about recruiting Duke Bitsko and Mike Kennealy to join the 2020 Vision
Committee.
